Tour Details
Join Travelian for a relaxing and fulfilling experience to one of Mexico’s low-key treasures!
Isla Holbox is a small (26 miles long) island north of Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula, in Quintana Roo State. It's part of the Yum Balam Nature Reserve, and separated from the mainland by the Yalahau Lagoon, which is home to flamingos, pelicans and other rich birdlife. The island is between the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico, with waters rich in marine life.
Getting to Isla Holbox is an adventure in itself! The island is accessed by ferry from the mainland town of Chiquila, and has virtually no cars; transport by most residents and tourists is by electric golf carts and mopeds. Other vehicles are not allowed in order to protect the environment and to prevent the streets from getting sand covered.
This relaxing paradise offers simple pleasures, such as of swinging in a hammock and enjoying natural beauty. The island shores are wide beaches that offer plenty of room for beach walkers and swimmers.
Other relaxing choices are wandering through the town, beach combing, swimming in beautiful waters, or enjoying good food at one of the many beach restaurants. It’s a place to unwind and escape crowded tourist areas.
Take a boat to “Isla Pájaros” (Bird Island), a small island covered by both mangroves and cacti, located on the Yalahau lagoon, where there is a large diversity of birds. As some of them are endangered species, two observation points and walkways are provided to minimize the direct contact with the birds. Flamingos, cormorants, herons, frigate birds, pelicans, wild ducks and gulls are among the species that can be observed in their natural environment. If you are a bird watcher, bring your binoculars!
Sunsets are a part of the daily ritual. Relax under a palapa on the beach. Enjoy each evening with a refreshing drink and a delicious seafood meal, in the company of traveling friends and our warm and knowledgeable guides. Let Travelian take you as part of a small group of travelers into the captivating Caribbean world of Holbox Island, in safety and comfort.
