Welcome! Thank you for joining our Audubon trip to the Oaxacan Highlands.

We are inviting you to join with Audubon for a spectacular trip to the Oaxacan Highlands. This trip will include birding with the world-renowned Manuel Grosselet plus opportunities to enjoy Oaxaca City. Manuel is an experienced and knowledgeable guide for Mexican birds, with an expertise of the Oaxacan Highlands. We are in for a variety of tremendous treats.

Our small group trip involves a roundtrip ride on a first class ETN bus from San Miguel de Allende to Oaxaca City. On the way down, we’ll stop at the extraordinary Helia Bravo Hollis Botanical Garden in the state of Puebla, for lunch and birding. On our return trip we’ll lunch at Puebla.

We’ll be staying at the beautiful and comfortable Casa Colonial in Oaxaca City, where they promise to meet our needs with gracious cordiality.

Our birding tours will include Teotitlan del Valle, Yagul and its archeological site, Mitla and its archeological site, the Arroyo de Gucamayas at higher elevation, and Monte Alban and its archeological site. We’ll lunch in each region and then enjoy visiting the villages and art of Teotitlan’s Weavers.

The afternoons that we are in town, our drivers will also be available to take us into the historic district to visit sights, including Santo Domingo Church and its Botanical Garden, The Regional Museum, The Rufino Tamayo Museum, The Museum of Contemporary Art, and other museums, as well as many of the galleries and shops that offer works by Oaxaca’s incredible fine artists and artisans.

We will provide you with maps for sightseeing as well as recommendations for the many excellent Oaxacan restaurants you will enjoy while wandering the quiet pedestrian Alcala and the lively Zocalo.
